Volunteers

The volunteers are working in close cooperation with Conni and the school team and their help is of great value for Conni's project and for the children of the Schamalindi school.

Ben from England- 2006

Ben Begbie-Clench, a 26 year old volunteer, stayed 6 months in the Maori Camping in Grootfontein. Ben did a great job for the school and contacted a lot of persons to ask for support and changes.

He gave English courses to the students, while many of them had only bad knowledges of this language.

He planted 40 papaya trees, which are growing well.

He organized 2 immense suit-cases full of books coming from England, this is the start for the school library.

During his presence the Ministry of Works accepted to clean the very overgrown sport field. Ben then started the soccer training with the children!

With his diplomatic talent, he contacted several institutions and ministries in Windhoek to explain personally the case of the Schamalindi school and tried to get things moving in the good direction and in a quicker way.

Thanks to his collaboration with Conni, it was possible in March 2006 to be part of the government feeding program. Since then, the government delivers twice a year 1 ton of maiz flour.

Together with Conni, he came to an agreement with the Permanent Secretary of Education to install and maintain a government pump up to the time the school has its own borehole.

He took several initiatives together with Conni to build a sheltered cooking area. The realization of this cooking area could start in April 2006 and was really needed. Without it, it was impossible to prepare the food during raining season.

The kids just loved him !

Dani & Tobi from Germany-  2007

Daniela Edler and Tobias Löhrke, 2 students of social pedagogy of the University of Wiesbaden, heard about Conni's project through Daniela's father.

He came on holiday in Namibia at Conni's & Peter's Maori campsite in Grootfontein.

After several contacts with Conni, they planned to support and help the Schamalindi Kindergarten.

Every day they left the campsite on the bike, loaded with material, games, toys...and a lot of positive energy.

They assisted Imelda, the teacher, who was very happy about their help and the new activities proposed.

They brought nice gifts for the kids from Germany. A very nice Kasperletheater (puppet theater) and a lot of puppets are now in the Kindergarten,

Moreover, every child made its own puppet. The children learned a lot of new games and songs.

Several outdoor activities were done together with the kids, who simply loved the presence of those 2 young animators.

Today the children regularely ask Conni when Tobi and Dani will visit them again ...
